AnthroCalc

AnthroCalc

The AnthroCalc app calculates centiles and Z-scores for height/length, weight, weight-for-length, body-mass index, waist circumference, head circumference, target (midparental) height, predicted adult height, and height velocity for typically growing children (using WHO or CDC references); for blood pressure (NIH/NHLBI 2004 or AAP 2017); for children with a number of syndromes (Turner, Down, Prader–Willi, Russell–Silver and Noonan); and for premature infants (Fenton or INTERGROWTH-21st). Citations are provided for each reference range used for the calculations.

Desktop versions are available on the BC Children's Hospital's website.

The AnthroCalc app is available on Google Play and on the App Store:

AnthroCalcUK

AnthroCalcUK

The AnthroCalcUK app uses the British 1990 Growth Reference (reanalyzed 2009) and the LMS method to calculate percentiles and Z-scores for length/height, weight, body-mass index (BMI), head circumference, sitting height, leg length, waist circumference, percent body fat, and blood pressure for typically growing children and youth ages birth to 23 years; and for length, weight and head circumference for preterm infants born at 23 to 42 weeks gestation. Citations are provided for each reference range used for the calculations..

The British 1990 Growth Reference LMS values are used under a non-exclusive license from Medical Research Council, part of United Kingdom Research and Innovation.

Many thanks to Prof. Tim Cole for his assistance and advice during the development of the app.

GrowthPlot

GrowthPlot

The GrowthPlot app plots length, weight, head circumference and weight-for-length for children from birth to 24 months of age; it also plots height, weight and body-mass index for children ages 2 to 19 years. Plots for WHO are made using the WHO Growth Charts for Canada, March 2014 revision. Plots for CDC are made using the 2000 CDC Growth Charts. Please note that the CDC now recommends the use of the WHO growth standards for infants 0–2 years of age.

You can also choose to plot selected growth parameters (such as height, weight, body-mass index and head circumference) for children with a number of syndromes (Turner, Down, Noonan, Prader–Willi and Russell–Silver).

BoneCalc

BoneCalc

This app is designed for the calculation of Z-scores and percentiles for bone mineral content (BMC) and areal bone mineral density (aBMD) for children ages 5–20 years, as measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA), for the following sites: total body, total-body-less-head, lumbar spine, total hip, femoral neck, and distal ⅓ radius. Separate calculations are available by age, by sex, and by race (Black and non-Black). Height-Z–adjusted Z-scores for these measures are also calculated. The BMC and aBMD data are derived from the Bone Mineral Density in Childhood Study [Zemel B et al., J Clin Endocrinol Metab 2011;96(10):3160–3169]. Calculations are also available for lumbar-spine bone mineral apparent density (BMAD) [Kindler JM et al. J Clin Endocrinol Metab 2019;104(4):1283–1292].

BolusCalc

BoneCalc

This app is designed for simple calculations of lunchtime insulin doses in the Canadian school setting (although calculations can also be done in U.S. mg/dL blood glucose units). There are five screens available: The Simple Insulin Bolus screen calculates a lunchtime insulin dose for kids on multiple daily injections (MDI) based on carb ratio, correction/sensitivity factor (ISF), and target BG. The Simple Insulin Scale screen generates a simplified insulin sliding scale for kids who are on a fixed dose of carbs at lunch, based on lunchtime carbs, baseline insulin dose, ISF, target BG, and current BG. The Full Sliding Scale screen generates a full insulin scale for kids on MDI based on carb ratio, ISF, and target BG. The Bolusing for Arrows screen allows you to calculate an increase or decrease in insulin dose (or carbs) to account for positive or negative direction arrows for CGMS users. The More School Resources screen contains links to websites devoted to the care of children with diabetes in the school setting. For all screens, there is the ability to share a time-stamped copy of the data generated with a student’s parent or caregiver via text, e-mail or other phone app.
